**Official* West Indies in New Zealand 2025

Yeah. 3 unsuccessful reviews per innings is so many, even Tim Paine probably wouldn't run out of them.

If you bat 160 overs you 'earn the right' to make the fielding captain exhaust their reviews.
I thought they renewed after 80 overs but I see the ICC removed that rule in 2017.

Assuming everyone's fit and healthy, what is the pecking order? It's hard to tell who is where when you consider those seen as long term prospects (Sears, Fisher) and the blokes who can be called in to do a job (Tickner, Rae and Duffy tbf).

I'd say the first four are Henry, Jamieson, O'Rourke and now Duffy. Smith and Sears would probably be the next cabs off the ranks with Fisher and Foulkes the project quicks around the traps. Shipley is an unknown given we don't know how he'd go coming back from injury but theoretically more of a prospect than, say, Rae Or Lister.

Not sold on smith atm would put fisher and potentially foulkes above him to perform in all conditions

Absolutely yes. I would also swap King or Hodge for Athanaze.
Alick just came out of an India tour with a fair amount of credit. His dismissal in the second dig was horrible but I don't get what you gain dropping him off the back of one poor performance for two players who are no more likely to score than him.

‘Black Caps trio Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Mitchell Santner have been ruled out of the remainder of the test series against West Indies.

Northern Districts bowler Kristian Clarke will join the test squad in Wellington this morning ahead of the second test which starts Wednesday.’

I don't know why this series goes Tue/Wed/Thu rather than Wed/Thu/Fri. I guess it's understandable not doing Thu/Fri/Sat since that finishes it on Christmas Eve, but yeah it's like it's set up to fail.

Funny how we've gone from "which bowler can we pick, there's not enough options" (the Brent Arnel years) to "which bowler can we pick, there's not enough who are fit"

It's a shame it's such a mad rush to fit all three tests in before Christmas. Might have been nicer to have two tests before Christmas and then a good old Boxing Day test to wrap up the series.
This might have worked if the India tour wasn't in January.

In any case, Super Smash starts on Boxing Day, & this take may be coming out of the oven but I prefer Boxing Day Super Smash to a Boxing Day Test.

Windies agreed to three tests, but on the proviso they were home for Xmas, from what I read somewhere.

Boxing Day Test if the WI were up for it, would sell out, a Boxing Day Super Smash won't.
