*Official* U19 Cricket World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe/Namibia

Another crazy ton from Sooryavanshi today. I remain to be convinced he's as young as they say, but he's going to kill this tournament isn't he? If you don't get him early he'll probably win the game in the first 15 overs for India.
Looking forward to him also killing the next tournament and the one after that.

We are ****ing winning this tournament,

West Indies' 15-member squad also includes 19-year-old batter Jewel Andrew, who has already played three ODIs and five T20Is for the senior national team.

West Indies enter the Under-19 World Cup after back-to-back seven-match Youth ODI series at home against Sri Lanka and England. Dorne was the highest run-getter in both series, with van Lange the next-best from West Indies. Several others who featured in both those series, including Zachary Carter, Matthew Miller, Jakeem Pollard, Shaquan Belle and Vitel Lawes, have also been named in the World Cup squad.

In ten matches spread across the Sri Lanka and England series, Pollard bagged 18 wickets at an average of 16.27. Belle picked up 15 wickets in nine games, while Lawes, who managed just a solitary wicket in three matches against England, hit back with 14 wickets at 14.92 in six games against Sri Lanka.

"In assembling this group, we have aligned their development with the style of play we expect at the senior level, ensured exposure to high-quality match opportunities, and placed a strong focus on leadership, tactical awareness and individual support within their territories," Dwain Gill, CWI's High Performance Manager, said.

At the Under-19 World Cup, West Indies have been drawn in Group D, alongside South Africa, Afghanistan and Tanzania. They start their campaign against Tanzania in Windhoek on January 15.

One name who, last winter was selected on a Lions tour and is the youngest to score a century for the England Under-19s team, is clearly missing:
17 year old Rocky Flintoff
Lancashire announced in April last year he had been left out of their championship squad as he "has suffered a 'lumbar stress reaction'..."
He was was signed/drafted in July as a wildcard, by his dad into the ECB Franchise stuff but didn't play as he had "an injury", but no further details were provided. Released / replaced mid way through the month.
Has he been injured since before last season or did he pick up a further injury during rehab or with the franchise?
Is he still injured and hence his non-selection for England Under 19s?
He signed a rookie contract covering Lancashire for 2024 and 2025. No further announcement.
Is he still under contract with Lancashire?

England managed to get Sooryavanshi out cheaply, although India still going along ok.

Erm, just spotted the NZ wicket keeper is called Aryan Mann.......some questions to answer there!!

Has anybody got any idea what the wickets will be playing like? Will this be a high scoring tournament? Will spin play a major part?

England have taken 8 Indian wickets today and they've all fallen to seam (Minto 5-34). Farhan has bowled 8 overs 0-50 in comparison.

Be interesting to see how England go chasing a total of about 290 (I suspect not well).

That is interesting, although maybe it could be more about the Indians being better at playing spin?

Yes let's see how well England bat, especially against spin.

148-3 at the halfway stage, looks like being a very intriguing finish. Rew the Younger on 38, could be a big player in this tournament.

196-3 after 34.3 overs with Rew on 71, but it started raining.

Were it a competitive fixture I'm guessing England would be comfortably ahead on DLS. It probably shows that India are definitely beatable if you can get the main boy early. If you don't, he'll kill the game.

England-U19 def India-U19 by 20 runs (DLS method)

NZ-U19 def Zim-U19 BY 114 runs

Warmup matches scheduled for January 13th:

*Pak-U19 vs USA-U19, Bulawayo Athletic Club, Bulawayo

*Scotland-U19 vs Bangladesh-U19, Prince Edward School Ground, Harare

*Ireland-U19 vs Tanzania-U19, Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek

*Japan-U19 vs WI-U19, United Cricket Club Ground, Windhoek

Format
The 16 teams will be divided into four groups with three teams from each group advancing to the Super six stage. The fourth-placed teams in each will move to a placement match, with the fourth-placed teams in Group A and D facing each other while the fourth-placed teams in Group B and C take each other on.

The top three teams from Group A and D will progress to one Super Six group while top three teams from Group B and C will be combined in another Super Six group. The points, wins and net run-rate earned against the other progressing Super Six teams will be carried forward.

The teams will then play two matches in the Super Six stage against opponents from the other group that finished in a different group stage position. For example, the first-placed team in Group A plays only teams that finished second and third in Group D in the Super Six. Similarly, the second-placed team in Group A plays only the teams that finished first and third in Group D.

Don't sleep on Ayush Mhatre, he's one of my favorite young batsmen in the world right now.
