Did they stop the breeding of fast bowlers in Australia after 1992? 2027 Ashes is going to look verrrry different.
its australia. within the next decade they'll pull 3-4 fast bowlers out their arse that are superior to 99.99% of the english seamers that have ever lived.

I get the feeling we're going to get a boring XI with no new faces come first Test

Khawaja
Marnus
Green
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Starc
Lyon
Boland
Hazlewood
ngl I'm not keen on a line up with Lyon getting nosebleeds at nine.

Although it does feel like he's batting better than at any point in his career, but I get the feeling he's never really fancied serious pace which he'll get this time.

Cummins makes a difference to our batting order as well. First test is Perth, right? Would you drop Lyon and play Neser? That would improve the batting and adjust the bowling to the conditions.

Just checked his average at Perth stadium and its good. His last game there being his worst performance. Quite a contrast with his record at the WACA which isn't good. He struggled at the WACA in the recent shield game.

The Perth Stadium pitch is very different to the WACA

Fun fact: most pitches in Perth are slow and low. The WACA is one of the biggest outliers in world cricket and they couldn’t replicate it at the stadium no matter how much money they threw at it

I did once work with a guy who was originally from Perth who was living in London for a few years who was a good player at grade level and he did tell me similar that the WACA was not similar to many pitches over there. I visited the WACA for the Dec 2010 game. My legs got utterly fried!

Well, the pitch in the 2018 India test was the fastest I've seen in Australian tests that've taken place in the time I've been watching, so it is possible. Though they haven't got it like that again since.

Waiting for Boland to get clobbered left right & center just to see the meltdown of glazing Aus fans. Majority saying Aus aint gonna miss much without Cummins coz Boland, but in my opinion Cummins is the best of the lot and also clutches with the bat more often than not, he will be sorely missed. Even in BGT, in the 1st match, where he was slightly off colour, Aus looked like a weak attack.

All the speculation about Cummins taking the spotlight away from the fitness of englands quicks. With so many coming back from injury,
Gus, Jofra, Wood who hasnt even played this year, and others like Carse whos been carrying an injury prob all season in UK, probably
just as many question marks over them.
Not to mention Stokes bowled himself to death against India, not sure how he'll back that up over a 5 match series again. Tongue seems to be a positive though, lad looks really fit for a long haul and is quite fast also. He might play a major role if he stays similarly fit like he was against India.

I don't think a majority are saying that, but if we get similar decks to the past few years, it could be the glazing Pommie fans having a meltdown.

I think too many English fans are expecting the Boland in England to turn up when it's more likely it'll be Boland at the MCG vintage. Not that good of course but closer to that than the other alternative.

Actually, and just for fun, Australia should produce spitting cobras instead of green mambas for this series. We have Lyon, Kuhnemann, Murphy, Rocc and even Tanveer and Zampa. Each one would get into the England squad. It'd be hilarious watching all the English cope from team officials who order bazball wickets in England complaining about doctored pitches in Oz, to the fans putting another asterix against a winning Australian ashes.

McDonald sounds more positive today about Cummins' prospects than the article earlier this week suggested, saying that his prognosis has improved in the last week or so (though Perth is still less than likely)

This would actually, unironically, likely be the actual set of conditions that would benefit Australia most compared to England. We're actually half decent on turning pitches these days.
