Come on you must go with your full team in every match. There is no dead rubber in wtc. England giving some useless white ball game importantance over a test match sounds bizarre to me

I'm not fussed about our upcoming white ball series (I knew there's an ODI tri-series coming up, but I didn't even know we had a home T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka lol), but this would be as good an opportunity as there is for us to have a look at someone else. With lots of games to come between realistic final contenders for the WTC, even if we win all our remaining Tests it's very unlikely we make the top 2

I would probably rest Archer and play someone else but other than that, wont look at too many changes in the English side.

I just think we need to change the mindset moving forward to take the WTC more seriously. It's the only thing that regular matches count for in a league table (and every Test means something), bilateral ODI's mean diddly squat (we're never not going to qualify for a World Cup). A more ruthless mindset will also help when the competition is tougher. No stupid declarations or follow ons, do what your opposition would least like you to do.

I watched Cook bowl yesterday against Sussex, he's the obvious back up to Robinson. Whether you'd want two bowlers like that in your team, not convinced. But he should absolutely play when Robinson doesn't.
I really don't think Baker should be anywhere near the Test squad yet, just doesn't look ready. Should be getting the experience in for Hants (who maybe then wouldn't have tried such a disastrous overseas signing). This was probably complicated though by the Carse incident.

Agreed. If they want a backup to Archer / Atkinson / Tongue then Olly Stone is the obvious candidate at the moment. Seems to be fully fit and bowling much better than either Baker or Carse.

Easy to laugh but there's some sinister undertones to it as well, especially with what's happening more widely in Pakistan. Perhaps the truth with Imam and his "injury" is that he'd actually just got to the point of "ah, **** it and **** them".

Hasn't Imam actually been one of the beneficiaries of the corrupt system though? Nephew of Inzy and questionable talent?
Yeah, but when someone benefits from a corrupt system, when one set of the corruptible are replaced with another, they can easily get frozen out.
I'm not sure Imam's record is that undeserving of the career he's had though? It's not as if Pakistan has been awash with quality at the opener position. Their list of running through one mediocre opener after another is longer than ours I think.
