I think India have had pretty rigorous testing and stuff from the time we had NCA set up. Dravid took it a step further and made sure no matter how young the kid is, they only play one U19 world cup.

Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are a different kettle of fish on this IMO. Think Pak has better facilities to enable such processes, so probably the best of the 3, followed by Bangladesh and then Afghanistan.
Yeah, but Bihar. And I remember, that U-19 teammate of Shaw and Gill, Manjot Kalra, getting suspended for age fraud. There's a video in circulation, which is pretty clear to see not fake, where he himself says in an interview that he is 14, close to 2 years before his IPL debut at 14.

My brother is a sports med doctor and once did a medical for a player who was supposedly 28 but was in reality likely 32. This was in football and the player concerned came from a country that was rather renowned for not really having good birth records.
In india its region specific. In south and west which are by far most developed parts of country has good birth records. Ie my parents received my birth certificate within 48 hours of of my birth. It was back in 1997 so you can imagine how much better it must be now while North and eastern parts from where sooryavanshi is which have high poverty don't have recorded birth certificates even in 2026. So there is every chance he might be one or two years older then his stated age

Unrelated to the player (Suryavanshi)…but I saw Piyush Chawla in one of those pre shows…

Is he really 37?

Dude looks at least 40
Uttar Pradesh and bihar are poorest states in india and don't have registered birth certificates so forget about vaibhav i have my dobuts about pant and jaiswal wethever they are age fudgers

I thought it was Shahid Afridi who was likely one of the biggest culprits. He was forever about 24 back in the day! Anyway, re your earlier reply to me, I was aware that it was the North and East of India where there is a great deal more poverty than elsewhere.

Whatever it takes!!!
There is no test for age though, and if being an age group star is your ticket out of poverty and birth certificates are easy to fake then people are gonna do that. I'm not judging, youth sport is kinda dumb anyway as a pipeline for talent because most men don't physically mature until their early-mid 20s.
They do some bone density tests. I am not very knowledgeable in science though but apparently its as good a tell as you can have.

I dunno why it always registered as bone density tests in my head but its apparently called "bone age" tests.

The Hindu said:
The BCCI uses bone age verification—primarily the TW3 method via wrist X-rays—to combat age fraud in junior cricket (U-16 boys/U-15 girls). As of June 2025, a second bone test is permitted if the initial test exceeds thresholds (16.5+ for boys, 15+ for girls), allowing for greater accuracy and preventing disqualification based on minor, "arithmetical" errors.

Afridi is known case but but likes of maindad and waqar openly admitted age frauds. I think pathans and those rural punjab are more likely to do age frauds then those from metropolitan cites like lahore and Karachi

Not the smartest cricket from Miller there. He should have taken the single; Kuldeep can hold a bat, and it would have, at worst, taken the game to a Super Over. Amazing striking from him, but that and the single off the last ball of the previous over were not the best plays.

Great game.. Buttler back in form would be worrying to all other teams in the competition. GT still have quite a few holes in their side. Siraj was shocking in that last over. But they would be happy they got lucky in the end there. DC did throw it away like @TT Boy says in the post above.

Have to say matches involving Gujarat Titans have been most thrilling down to wire matches(except srh vs Lsg one). Thats what having good bowling attack does

Those were a couple of bad calls from Miller. Last ball of 19th over, he should have refused a single to keep strike in the last over. Then when it was time to take a single off the 2nd last ball to level the match, he simply refused. Why would you forgo such an opportunity? You wouldn't do so in the world cup.
