Marnus has been "out of form" for most of his career. Almsot everyone has realised by now that this is his mean. The 3 years he averaged 60 was an aberration brought about by a number of factors. They're not coming back. This is what Marnus is and almost always has been

Yeah at this stage he's a mid player who had a purple patch. Not unlike Jimmy Adams or Gambhir. Hell, even Venkatesh Prasad had a standout 1996 and looked a world beater for a year.

I'm nowhere near as anti-Marnus as some others here, but him pretty much gauranteed to keep the 3 spot is not too flash, neither Inglis nor Connolly are remotely realistic options to bat that high. KPat definitely a bit stiff
Speaking of Connolly, I'm really not too keen on the way he has been managed at all. I do rate him, and can absolutely see him being a Test player in the medium term, but it frustrates me somewhat that he's pretty much gauranteed to not get a solid run of red ball cricket for WA. Don't know why he needed to be in this squad, especially considering his red ball bowling is still a complete nonentity

I think it’s fair to assume that the selectors don’t believe that there’s anyone in the country who is capable of at least matching Marnus output of a batting average of 25 and some great fielding PLUS there’s some relationship issues at play

Would be a terrible idea, however I'd prefer it over Marnus staying in the XI yet again tbh

Marnus's treatment is such a contrast to usman lol. Usman had a few bad tests against India in 2020 with smith and Warner banned and got shot into the sun (after his opening 100 against Pak in the UAE). Marnus hasnt made a 100 in 3 years ( 1 100 in 4 years) and is still getting picked on the back of half a shield season in a stronger lineup.
