The sarcasm over the treatment of Hughes is legit but we should pick Kpat on those numbers on top of his overall 50 over record. Australia think Kpat international standard and he should be given a chance. Not that his inconsistency gives you confidence but he's in front of most every other player you can think of that's on the fringe for Australia.

Just looked at Kat's record - 45 ave in tests and 52 in fc. I'd forgotten how good he was. Not sure Kpat can match that but if he was even a little better than Ed Cowan and approaching a Shane Watson, I'd take it.

He might have well deserved it tbf. Probably the guy who got hardest done by after 2005, he was probably the guy who got sawn off the most by Koetzen et al and for some reason he kind of got his cards marked for a while afterwards, which was incredibly harsh.

Damien Martyn tbh. Dominated Murali in Sri lanka and Kumble in India a year earlier and piled on the runs in NZ immediately before the Ashes. Got some awful decisions aswell and he was out of the squad to face the ROW in the super test and Windies soon after

I was actually thinking of that as the exception. It was weird he came good in that tournament, was timing the ball through the off-side better than ever, but it didn't translate to Test cricket for some reason.

not too dissimilar to 2010-11 tbh. he was easy to drop compared to others. Martyn was the only one dropped straight after the 2005 Ashes, but then Katich scored 3 runs in the first 2 test matches afterwards and so he got dropped (a very rare case of an Australia batter being dropped after a win with no structural or player returning to fitness element to it). Clarke got dropped the test match after, and Hussey moved down the order when Langer returned to fitness, which briefly made the middle order Hodge/Hussey/Symonds
