International short form cricketers who haven’t played FC cricket

Watching Tim David smack the Indian bowlers around Hobart. Looked at his stats and confirmed what I thought, he’s never played FC cricket.

Which other cricketers have done similar things in the last few decades? Players who played tests but no ODIs. Or vice versa. Has anyone played ODI cricket without playing FC cricket?

Didn't Warner debut for Australia before he ever played FC cricket?

I was just going to say I asked this at some stage. So much has changed in 8 years that I don’t think it will be as uncommon moving forward.

You think he is capable of spinning it more, gaining more control and becoming more rounded if he played more First-Class? We really have a lot riding on his development.
I know we have already gone down this route but it’s no strange coincidence about how many of the early T20 superstars were actually proper Test players. Guys like Gayle and Gilly and even Baz could bat a whole day as well as smash it. Tim David is a great example because his batting looks fundamentally flawed but man can he smash it.

It's the consistency whilst smashing it that is impressive. Fair play to him.

I think this will become a lot more common now with the various T20 leagues and franchises scouting on their own etc. But surely Warner was a bit of a unicorn back then and even in the 2010s this was a very rare event. Fully expect this to become far more common from now.

While Warner played short form international cricket before playing first class cricket, he did end up playing 143 matches of the latter, so probably doesn't count for this thread any more.

Dananjaya played for Sri Lanka in a T20 without having featured in a first-class or even a List A game. His List A debut was actually an ODI. He debuted professionally in August 2012, and by September 2012, he was playing international cricket. Fast-tracking isn’t new for Sri Lanka—especially with spinners—but that was extreme.

There are probably a few other U19 cricketers from the subcontinent with similar stories. Remember Pak fast-tracking Anwar Ali into national contention after his demolition of India in the U19 World Cup Final. He didn’t debut then, but he had zero professional experience.

Not strictly what the thread was asking, in the inverse though Kraigg Brathwaite has played an even 100 Tests (as of the time of writing) but has never played a professional T20 game of any variety in his entire career.

Does make sense when you consider his style of batting, but even with that being said I can think of other similarly stodgy players who have at least played the format domestically, even if only briefly

Lahiru Kumara iirc hadn't played any Sri Lankan domestic stuff upon his first Test, but he had played a couple of games for Sri Lanka A. Definitely another one plucked almost straight from U19 cricket though

I would say the best Non-FC cricketer in the world right now is Brandon McMullen of Scotland , who averages 41 with the bat and 22 with the ball in 37 ODI games
