A 21st century AUS ODI XI that never won a WC :

1.Shaun Marsh
2.Usman Khawaja
3.David Hussey
4.Adam Voges
5.Cameron White
6.Peter Handscomb (WK)
7.John Hastings
8.Nathan Coulter-Nile
9.Ryan Harris
10.Doug Bollinger
11.Nathan Hauritz
Hauritz was in 2003 Squad.

I would swap out Handscomb for Wade to get a proper keeper, Hastings for James Hope, Bollinger for Clint MacKay and Hauritz for Ashton Agar.

Great team, although instead of Patterson I'd rather pick a really big hitting allrounder as another finisher
Okay how about Andre Russell ?

Plus he can bowl 90mph and a world class fielder ..

But id keep Patterson instead of Bishop ..

His ODI record is very underrated , 90 wickets in just 59 matches at 24.51 which is better than Marshall and Bishop and he was rumored to being even more faster than them. An express pace speed demon.

Love how a SA XI to not win the cup means just the SA XI.....

Bollinger offers something different with his left arm angle, and he averaged 23.90 with the ball at good pace, John Hastings averaged 29 with the bat at SR 99 and took 42 wickets in 29 games at 29.90 which is much better than Hopes so id keep him , Wade i think is valid though , Agar averaged quite poorly with the ball but Aus dont use a lot of spin so he will have to do

Good really for me, at best low very good. Not really there with the bat for his bowling and fielding to push him to Great tier.
He was the player of series in ICC Champions Trophy and won the player of match in Finals 2000. Contributed with both bat and bowl and till date, it is the only ICC tournament win that South Africa have in their bag.

Additionally, he had a long career with 10k+ ODI runs @44 and 200+ wkts with bowl.

He is definitely a great cricketer. You could debate whether he is not better than ABD or Klusener or he is but definitely a great ODI cricketer.

I think he was a bit too slow with the bat in ODIs to be considered a Great, and have him 68th in my ODI batter's list, but can see the argument. Not a comparison with Klusener or especially ABD though, that's vile.

Kallis was not a great ODI cricketer. IMO he was lucky to even make that SA side a lot of the time. He actually cost them games by batting too slowly (happened in Tests too but obviously much more rarely). If SA didn't have a relative dearth of top order batting in the 90s and early 00s I wouldn't have picked him

His fanboys will say it was part of their game plan but in reality his inadequacies were somewhat hidden by SAs brilliant engine room of lower order all rounders

He got better later on but that correlated with the conditions-related elevation of scores in ODI cricket

That’s nonsense. This guy won South Africa their only white ball ICC tournament by taking his team over the line in Finals and Semi finals and claiming that he didn’t deserved to make it to SA side is quite absurd.

Only Indians across the world cry over low strike rate of batsman in ODI cricket.
