I'll admit I didn't expect them to hold out. Stirring stuff. I enjoy a good defensive effort.Northants somehow hold on for a draw. If Lancs had a half decent spinner it would've been over by tea.

Jones dropped Sanderson as well with about 4 or 5 overs left but I agree when Northants spinners were bowling the commentators reckoned it was turning they never said that when Hartley was bowling. Lancashire could have done with Parkinson who they pushed out the door a couple of years ago. Game probably went when they came off for bad light on day 2, a few more overs then and the last wicket partnership next morning of 60 in a and half hours would not have happened. Will be interesting who they pick next round, if Anderson plays two on the bounce, doubt he will play the third.Northants somehow hold on for a draw. Lancs' batting towards the end of their second innings was weird. I know they were eight down but they seemed very risk averse when trying to set a target. I think they should've been a bit more positive and either got to a point where they could declare, or get out and give themselves more time.Jones dropped Sanderson as well with about 4 or 5 overs left but I agree when Northants spinners were bowling the commentators reckoned it was turning they never said that when Hartley was bowling. I wouldn't have any qualms about Bethell opening, he’s always come in early for England at 3 anyway. It would of course mean a new number 3, I wouldn’t be against either of Smith or Rew (with the other taking the gloves), I don’t think England would be averse to promoting Smith up the order, they did it to Brook at Headingley in the AshesSome nice rearguard efforts today. Even Kent held on (even though theirs was effectively a three day game).
Good round for Rew and Smith (both batting at three), a poor one for Crawley. Are England brave enough to open with Bethell?

They do seem very over dependent on the veterans though. Anderson, Bailey, Wells and Bohannon were excellent, and there was good back up from Singh Dale and Balderson, but the likes of Bell, Hurst, Hartley and Singh just look like passengers. If Hartley is really the best red ball spinner on Lancs' books then they have a problem.
I liked what I saw of Arav Shetty last year in the ODC, I’m pleased that you signed him on a longer term deal, but the Championship is a different beastLancashire have seldom declared over the years.
Have a degree of sympathy for Singh. It was his third first class match, not picked at all last year. And a lot of more experienced players on both sides didn't make double figures at least once. But Hurst (32), Bell (33), Hartley (42) and Jones (49) have plenty of match experience.
Hartley is the only spinner with first class experience as the Management let Parkinson and Morley go. Speaks volumes for the Management's priorities. Barnard is the untested back up who has only played list A during franchise time and 3 in the Blast. All others (Wells, Singh, Shetty) are really batting allrounders. That's why they tried to sign Lyon the other year. They will have Chris Green a little but later in the year if he doesn't pick a franchise gig.
This is a great siteThe link below looks pretty up to date and accurate to me. Missed this before now apparently in its fourth year. No idea how player availability is kept up to date. Lancashire have been fairly secretive in the past. Time will tell.

I think the answer to that is a big fat no, but that’s fine, he’s a 22 year old spinner who needs to learn his craft. He may have entered the bowling fray late, but at least he got on the pitch, which is more than can be said for much of his time at Somerset and GlamorganBash took 1-55 as Worcs batted out a draw facing innings defeat. He was 7th bowler on it seems from the scorecard. Is he still Englands no1 spinner?
Mickey Arthur was giving him the big 'un before the game as well—he was a "national treasure" per the BBC article I read. Arthur is either not a good judge of talent or likes to talk a load of nonsense. When he coached Western Australia and they had Sajid Mahmood (for reasons unknown), Arthur claimed he was the "complete package."Bash took 1-55 as Worcs batted out a draw facing innings defeat. Not sure how anything will change until they appoint a selector. If they miss too many CC rounds then what is the point of a selector?Bash took 1-55 as Worcs batted out a draw facing innings defeat. He was 7th bowler on it seems from the scorecard. Is he still Englands no1 spinner?
That is one hell of a squad!Looks like Duckett and Tongue are back for Notts
