RSA A 104-6 before Ackerman flayed them around Arundel. England A 41 runs behind 6 wkts left. Just saw that tribe bats in glasses which is rare for batters nowadays, i believe Boycott started in glasses, switched to contacts. Clive Lloyd, Zaheer, David steele, among others wore glasses i think their entire careers. I remember a few bowlers Vettori, Doshi, Kumble, malcolm wore glasses. Meanwhile Bethel out of IPL with finger injury, so James Rew may be called upon to bat at 3 on debut.

Very different approaches to this game from England and South Africa, England have picked a very young squad (granted, many of the players who you’d think would be the next chips off the block are playing in the Blast), whereas most of the South African squad are in their 30s and have played for the main team before. Not saying England should be picking players who are a fair way off selection for the full team, but equally, what is the point in picking someone like Dane Paterson for a tour like this?

His immediate Test prospects rely on how serious his finger injury is, but what an own goal it would be if Rew takes his place in the white ball side, I wonder what KP would have to say about that!

Looks like easy win for RSA. Tribe isn't the usual bazball type, and I think this is his first big innings of the season, hopefully he's impressed Mr north & co.

Yes - might have been better to play a stratch game with teams picked on the day from the 22.
Looks like 5 test players (Senokwane, de Zorzi, Hamza, Subrayen, Paterson) 3 with ODIs behind them (Smith, Qeshile, Baartman) plus 2 IT20 (Hermann, Mokoena) yet captained by Ackerman the one player who hasn't represented his country at the highest level - just u19s.
England only Mousley played ODIs and 5 of the team have less than a dozen first class games behind them (Mayes, Singh, Jack, Stanley and Ogborne) - which probably speaks volumes regarding the hierarchy's views on the CC.

Sonny Baker is definitely closest, his time might come very very soon, apart from him, I’d say Henry Crocombe, who is in the Lions squad and might play in the second game against South Africa. Manny Lumsden, James Minto and Alex Green are all teenagers so are a bit further away, but are all very exciting

He's been on the radar for a few years as he’s been in and around Lions squads although I wouldn’t say he’s particularly close to the full team. He’s played one full game for Lancashire, where he looked a bit toothless, then got injured, and has recently had surgerythanks for information. What about ajeet singh dale?? Seeing some more pieces about who to pick at 3 if Bethell can’t play in the first Test, which begs the question do the media know more than us at this stage?
The i have gone for Stokes to replace him at 3, which I think would have been sensible a couple of years ago, but his form with the bat has fallen off a cliff (it would be a bit like when we put Mo up there in the Ashes!). Ultimately Rew is a number 4, so he wouldn’t be in his preferred position, but it’s not as if it would be a totally alien position for him, he’s batted in the top 3 before
