Draft ideas/scheduling thread

I'd be in for this (we've done it before with other max totals, e.g. 200, which makes it very different).

Because we need a format dominated by Bangalee players.

No Top 8 countries, Zimbabwe, Shakib or Rashid Khan, All-Time ODI draft.

Anyone liking that idea?

I remember this draft (concept made by Jimmy) being really fun, challenging and unique

Would anyone be keen for a re-do of it?

Sounds cool. But what if we lose track of players timeline. e.g. End up in 2026, needing 4 players.

Then it reverts back to the 1877-1889 window and you start again. Despite what is written in the OP the "must have debuted in 1877" was deemed too restrictive so it was widened to 1877-1889 for the first pick(and re-entry point if you hit the current year)

I just went through the whole thread and remembered I only found it so fun because I got really lucky with the pick order and got onto a good line of players. OS seemed to hate the draft while playing it lol.

Time-outs are tactically beneficial and able to be abused and getting a late pick in the randomised round order was a huge advantage as you had all the information on the other drafter's plans and an early pick the following round to really capitalise on and screw them over with. Weird draft looking back lol and I think my nostalgia was a bit misplaced.

A re-do should have every round randomised(the random-reverse wasn't ideal) and should also allow Bradman as he's not that easy to reach and would require some sacrificial picking(for example Jack Gregory retired in 1928, but he debuted in 1920, a year nobody retired in, so nobody could land on the year 1920)

How about this idea

Each player you draft must have played at least one Test match with or against the player you drafted in the previous round.
Example: Pick 1: Any player in history (e.g., Mitchell Starc).
Pick 2: Someone who played a Test with or against Mitchell Starc (e.g., Joe Root).
Pick 3: Someone who played with or against Joe Root (e.g., Steve Smith).
Pick 4: Someone who played with or against Steve Smith... and so on.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll create a thread on the forum.

That does sound less restrictive than the draft I dug up. What about making it so instead of it being the last player you picked in previous round, it's the last player picked by the person before you in the draft order? Or is that too difficult.

The reason i suggest it is another thing I noticed with that draft I dug up is that drafts that make you draft in your own little bubble, you're not competing with the other drafters as much and it feels less tactical

Or maybe go with your original idea but the round 1 picks need to be pre 1900? So everyone can stick to their own bubble but will be working chronologically upwards to the ATG players and therefore in close competition with each other the whole way through.

A few options here.

I think the Human Chain (linking to the previous drafter) might be a bit too stuck if someone picks a niche player, but I love the idea of the Chronological Sprint.

Let's go with the original idea (personal chains) but mandate that Round 1 picks must be Pre-1900. By starting everyone in the same era, we’ll be competing for the same legends from the start. It makes the draft more tactical while still letting everyone build a great side.

One more thing, I think this might be a draft that requires a flexible picking order (ie, from round 2 onwards the picking order is decided on where someone's last picks sit chronologically, either debut date/retirement date)

Otherwise, it'd be way too big an advantage to just go Wilf Rhodes - George Headley for your first 2 picks and you're already into the 1950s after 2. From there you're so far ahead you basically can just pick whoever you want without others interfering

I think that was the first draft I ever took part in… I certainly enjoyed it.
