Attack A
Steyn
Anderson
Cummins
Herath
Stokes

Attack B
Bumrah
Rabada
Morkel
Ashwin
Flintoff

Pick the attack for all conditions
Attack A. They have at least a couple bowlers who can win games in each country they visit.

Morkel is a major let down compared to a worldclass Cummins.

Bumrah breaks down.

Rabada doesn't have enough success in SC.

Ashwin is largely useless in SENA.

Flintoff isn't a matchwinner really.

C'mon bro, you are demeaning him as a bowler by mentioning this in every single post about him. Yes, he has durability issues but even Anderson, Steyn have broken down at worst times for their team.

Steyn broke down vs India 2015, first test day 2 causing him to miss that test's second innings leaving South Africa a bowler short. Eventually ruled out for whole series.

Same thing vs Australia 2016 at WACA, again first test day 2 ruling him out of the game and entire series.

Vs India 2018 at Newlands, again first test of the series. Available for the second innings and rest of the summer.

Same thing with Anderson when he limped on day 1 of 2019 Ashes leaving England a bowler short for rest of the game.

In 2015 Ashes, ruled out of the series after third test.

Yes, Bumrah misses games but him breaking down during a game has similar odds to other bowlers.

I didn't mention it as much before until Coronis shared the stat that Bumrah hasn't played more than six tests for India in a row.

I think it's a worse issue than I originally thought. Does that make sense?

Then you can quote it in a better way by saying availability issues. You sound it like he's breaking down mid game every time.

Think it's pretty close.

Don't think there's much between [Steyn + Anderson] and [Bumrah + Rabada].
Cummins a big upgrade on Morkel.
Ashwin is better than Herath.
Flintoff a bit better than Stokes.

Maybe just about lean A for the gap in 3rd seamer but I don't think it's clear cut.

The question was on an attack for all conditions and outside of maybe Aus where they are close, I think A is comfortably more threatening elsewhere.

Cummins > Rabada
Anderson >>>> Morkel

Frankly, it ends there.
Wrong Comp:

Steyn>Bumrah
Cummins>Rabada
Anderson>Ashwin
Herath~<Morkel
Stokes<Flintoff

A still wins, but not the margin you implied

This is decisive enough. Stokes and Flintoff just don't matter that much at all, fifth bowler is not gonna bowl much.

No, it doesn't. Bumrah has played 6 tests a year since his debut. To compare that with some of the best in history, Marshall played 6 a year. Hadlee 5, Imran 4. Among top tier fast bowlers, it is only Mcgrath who is really an outlier, with close to 10 tests a year. More than his availability, Bumrah's problem has been that he hasn't really had a longish test career. But you are not even willing to wait until the end of his career before making sweeping judgements.

It's doesn't matter how much he plays per year its how long he can consistently be available for his team. This team relying on him as main pacer is affected.
