This bloke is a serious cricketer in his prime.

I'd love to see him given a crack at Tests in some way, but it'd necessarily mean Scotland losing their best player just for him to try and force his way in. He's never even played a First Class fixture so it seems sadly unlikely for him to find a pathway. Maybe a county will take a punt on him as an overseas player? I note that he did play for Hampshire, but only in the One Day Cup.

Would there be any stand down if he wanted to play for SA? How is his bowling? Could he be picked ahead of Wiann "should've scored 400+" Mulder as an allrounder, or someone like De Zorzi or Stubbs with the bat?

No but they're hardly going to rush him in based on zero First Class games. He needs to start playing some domestic FC cricket for someone and he'd have to do it as an overseas player (which teams would be less keen on) or retire from Scottish cricket.

Couldn't he get a county gig? Plenty of Scots appear to play county cricket.

He could if he stopped playing for Scotland, or if he was picked up as an overseas player. He was indeed picked up as an overseas player for the One Day Cup but not the Championship as yet.

I wish Counties could include a system that let more chances to non Big 8 countries. Maybe something like 1 or 2 extra international optional spots for players from the rest.

Why should this be on the counties? Can't Shield or Ranji sides give them a go?
Well, County is the standard FC, no? Significantly more Indian and Australian players have played in CC than the otherway around, not to mention CC already has foreign born quotas.

So? That's not an argument for county cricket having to be an incubator for associate players. Why can't Tamil Nadu, South Australia or Central Districts do their corporate social responsibility bit for the good of the global game?

I don't know about Tamil Nadu but NZ and Aus FC competitions have far less spots in general. They have 6 teams each, which is 66 players actively playing each round compared to literally 3 times that many in England. There are far more positions for overseas players, not to mention more of a need for them to increase the standard of the competition. Then there's the financial aspect, counties are in a better position to pay overseas players. Also geographical relation to Scotland, and the whole citizenship thing

probably a **** load of other reasonable reasons why County cricket would be more appropriate too

Why did he turn his back on his country ?

Excuses for other countries' FC sides not pulling their weight for the betterment of the world.

Counties can barely produce enough cricketers to make the England side up to standard. I'm not sure why they should have some mortal duty placed upon them to uplift a bunch of associate nations too.
