So the Renegades will be playing at the MCG and Junction Oval, rather than Docklands and Geelong. Supposedly it's so 'the club’s home games aren’t spread too thinly across venues', the advantage apparently being that Junction is in Melbourne.

I've seen things that make less sense, but it's still silly.

Also missed this when the contracts were announced, but Matt Kelly opting out of a WA contract is a disappointing development, even if he has been mostly injured over the last couple years. Have to think thats him likely done with red ball cricket, Keiran Elliott a definite downgrade honestly

Fergus O'Neill finished his county stint with Notts taking 26 wkts @ 16.38 in only 5 games. That now gives him 200 wkts @ 19.43 in 49 FC games.

Have Australia ever had a 25 year old bowler with such an impressive record while never being close to receiving a Test cap?

He has to overcome the speed through the air bias. But if Carey stands up over the stumps for him as a tactic, then I think he'll be good. Trouble for him is that he has to get past the big 3 plus Boland. He has time on his side.

I think its more an "I've been crocked way too often and therefore cbf anymore" type decision than anything else, wouldn't be stunned if he's still getting picked for the 50 over stuff for WA if fit

I suppose Elliott's there to play the stock bowler role like Gannon. Disappointed they didn't just give Esterhuysen a full contract.

My mind went immediately to Adam Dale, but he jagged two Tests. So, Matt Inness. Average not quite as good but he was definitely one dude where the chat was similar.

Honourable mention to Joe Dawes from QLD and Steve Magoffin, who had a good County record too like O'Neill. Was definitely a bit of 'what else does he have to do?' about the former but, well, he's from QLD so wickets are free. I dunno if Magoffin was ever really close, which is a bit weird since he was always in the top Shield bowlers, was tall and ragged it so was hard to see what was he was missing.

Also considering the schedule to come, I don't think O'Neill will stay back in the pack for much longer. He'll surely tour England next year.
