2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

Leo Carter's first FC ton since his 305-run partnership with Fletcher in 2020/21. Auckland bowling 31 overs of Dixit must be ruing their non-selection of Gulati. With that, it looks like Canterbury have sealed the Plunket Shield unless Auckland can pull something out of the fire.

With Canty having got 8 bonus points and Auckland only 5, I think Auckland are gone-burger even if they manage to (improbably) win outright from here. ND are also history. Having got 4 bonus points, Otago could still finish equal with Canty if they were to win outright and Canty don't. Not sure what would happen in that case.

Danru Ferns frauds 3 wickets in 9 balls from aerial flicks.

Meanwhile, Canterbury reach their third highest ever FC total.

Nah. Canterbury's got it.
  • Canterbury win: Canterbury win the Shield
  • Canterbury lose/draw: depends on Otago
  • Otago lose: Canterbury win
  • Otago win: they tie with Canterbury on points & wins, Canterbury win the Shield on Net Average per Wicket

Hoping Dhillips gets a 3 run a ball hundred this session and then Auckland shoot Canterbury out for double digits in the 3rd #daretodream

Well done to Otago on a tremendous season. I don't care what the stupid tie breaker rule says, this is a tie for first place, and they have every right to be thrilled.
Adding to that, Otago also drew twice with Canterbury. Although they did have the benefit of getting to play hapless Wellington twice, while Canterbury only got to do so once.

Repeats the NPC result.

According to Margot Butcher's write up on the NZC page that is the first time Otago have won three FC games in a row since 2012/13. What a difference O'Connor made to that side. Would have been a bit of a fairytale ending if they had won the Shield. Great that Todd was able to come in and show his class in a pressure situation. I wonder if Georgeson is inching towards higher honours along with Chu.

I don't know what happened to Wellington this season. A few of the batsmen struggled in the New Year.

Congrats to Canterbury. Nicholls was so prolific he deserved some silverware.

Wellington keeps getting burnt by their habit of seeing the absolute world in an Aussie coach, like Aussies are the best way to put some starch and mongrel into the men's side of things. Only Blundell was ever going to respond to that, maybe Severin a little bit. Past successful Firebirds seasons suggest they actually need to have zealous missionaries and guiding lights bestowed on them.

Batting, gonna be mean and include all the way down to Will Young. That Henry Nicholls though.
Averages over 50 for Stackpole, Keene, Chu, M Boyle and Georgeson, while Heaphy and Mariu were still pretty good too.

Forgettable season for Mo Abbas as well. And after blasting him last season for his perenially bad form, McLachlan had a good turnaround.

Dale Phillips, feast or famine. 2 centuries and an average in the 20s.

Might have to find a seam bowler worthy of first-class status. I'm not sure any coach is going to transmute these beans into beanstalks.

Probably not much time left in Younghusband either if he didn't take 10 wickets and he's already 36.

Hard to see where 20 wickets are coming from without Sears or Smith.

Was Van Beek injured or is he not available for red ball now? I think Oscar Jackson will be a handy all-rounder. I thought they might give former NZ under 19 player Ryan Tsorgas a go too.
