2025–26 Australian Domestic Season

Was a good season for 25 year old allrounders

Scott - 547 runs @ 39.07 (28 wkts @ 23.25)
O'Neil - 472 runs @ 36.30 (35 wkts @ 18.80)
Edwards - 414 runs @ 51.75 (15 wkts @ 27.73)
Some seem to think that O'Neill is too slow for test cricket but his record is so good that he'll eventually force them to consider him

Who would you pick in a 2025/26 Shield XI?
(Should have played min. 5 shield games)

I'm thinking

1. Harper (+)
2. Renshaw
3. Patterson
4. Handscomb
5. Lehmann
6. Edwards
7. Scott
8. O'Neill
9. McAndrew
10. Rocchiccioli
11. Boland

Contract out:
Xavier Bartlett, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Brendan Doggett, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster, Adam Zampa
IMO cutting Richardson (after having him contracts for years when he was injured) in favour of Doggett (a very limited bowler) is rather stupid.

Yeah that's insane.

Very interesting that Weatherald got a contract ahead of Renshaw too. He's only in contention for one format and many believed he was just about to lose his place in that to Renshaw himself, who also plays both other formats but didn't get a contract.

With no games before the Bangladesh Tests doesn't this contract list pretty much show who'll be picked?

1. Head
2. Weatherald
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Green
6. Carey
7. Webster
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Lyon
11. Hazlewood

Squad: Inglis, Boland, Neser, Murphy
Reserves: Doggett, Bartlett, Kuhnemann

(White ball only: Ellis, Marsh, Zampa)

I'd be surprised if they put all three of Cummins, Starc and Haze on the park for Bangladesh

Richardson, McSweeney and O'Neil playing really well could earn them a Bangladesh Test squad call-up?

Will also be interesting how Weatherald goes

Weatherald just made 83 for Leicestershire which made me wonder when was the last time he scored a FC century?

His last 13 FC games (since 1-Oct-25)

4 Shield matches - 3 fifties - HS 94
5 Tests - 1 fifty - HS 72
3 Shield matches - 2 fifties - HS 95
1 county match - 1 fifty - HS 83

Edit: he scored 145 vs NSW in his last shield game of last season (17-Mar-25)

^ Thanks, so Weatherald hit 145 vs NSW then 183 for Australia A vs Sri Lanka A in July 2025, then no hundreds for the whole next season
