    English Domestic Season 2024

Northants managing to win the only close match of the night. Horrible last over from Reece but I guess they'd exhausted all their pace options by that point.

Have you ever wanted someone to beat (Edit: or succeed against) the team you support?

Whilst I wasn't exactly willing him on, Kevin O'Brien playing his innings of a lifetime to defeat England that time was special, and ruthlessly exposed the faults of our ODI bowling attack.

England players and selection discussion thread

Well, Moeen came out of retirement for the last Ashes. Why not Jimmy for the next? Will be interesting to see if he packs up completely after Lords, or continues to play for Lancashire. They could do with a bowler who takes wickets.

England players and selection discussion thread

What's happened to Tom Lawes this season? He looked a good prospect. From @FBU 's list I can't see England picking Worrall (too Australian), Snater (too Dutch, too slow, not even an automatic pick for his county), Potts (injured and out of form), Mahmood (still returning from injury) or Fisher...

England players and selection discussion thread

Pennington is pretty rapid. Not quite on the Mark Wood level but easily as quick as Atkinson or Tongue. Is Snater really in contention for a place? Not sure he is even England qualified, is he? And surely they'd pick Porter ahead of him?

    English Domestic Season 2024

Joey Evison got a howler as well, that ball would barely have hit a second set of stumps down the leg side.

Leading players who had a disability etc (e.g. Len Hutton's arm)

James Taylor was forced to retire because of a congenital heart problem.

Leading players who had a disability etc (e.g. Len Hutton's arm)

IIRC Colin Milburn continued to play after losing an eye in a road accident, but was understandably not so successful.

    English Domestic Season 2024

Smith and Foakes both out fairly cheaply. The delivery that got Smith looked like an absolute jaffa though.

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

Yeah but the question wasn't "Which batsman had the best series in each country?" It was about their overall record. Graeme Smith's overall record in England is way better -- even before you consider that he was batting in a harder position, he was captain, and he actually won series.

Bad cricketers who played too long

    Bit harsh on Jerome Taylor.

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

Graeme Smith in England, surely? Averaged nearly 70 across 12 matches when England generally had pretty good attacks. Whilst opening. Steve Smith "only" averages 55 in England, albeit from more Tests.

What has Foakes done wrong? Smith doesn't even keep regularly for Surrey AFAIK.

Young players who failed to realise their potential

At his quickest, properly fast -- maybe even in the ballpark of someone like Mark Wood. I saw him in a one day game where Steven Finn was playing and he made Finn look like a medium pace trundler.

Bad cricketers who played too long

    See also Jos Buttler.

Young players who failed to realise their potential

Mal Loye, Mark Foottit, Chris Lewis, Devon Malcolm. And just because they inexplixably never got the chance to play for England, David Sales and Glen Chapple.

    English Domestic Season 2024

Yeah the idea that Lyon was going to be taking five-fors in every innings in April was always a bit optimistic. Lancs' trouble is that without Mahmood they have the trundliest of medium pace attacks, and their batting has been poor. Chris Tremain at Northants took a total of two wickets in...

What are the minimum record requirements for secondary disciplines to qualify someone as an all-rounder?

Does that mean Zak Crawley isn't a batsman? Or Chris Woakes is only a bowler in England?

What are the minimum record requirements for secondary disciplines to qualify someone as an all-rounder?

David Capel sadly didn't meet either. He was still an all-rounder though.

What are the minimum record requirements for secondary disciplines to qualify someone as an all-rounder?

Agree with @Starfighter, it's purely down to the intent of the selection. At England's low point in the 90s and early 2000s they went through a phase of picking "bits and pieces cricketers". Not many of them did much with either bat or ball, but they were still all rounders. It's not that...
