England players and selection discussion thread

Football is completely different because there are so many leagues across the world to go to if you’re struggling for game time, but considering the English game is largely allergic to spin (especially young spinners), there must be some way to get him to learn his craft, can’t we organise more...

Not helped by the batters giving him precious little rest mind you!

Batting at 3, you can always come in after the first ball anyway, I don’t think it’s a massive leap to suggest Bethell opens. Ultimately though, the two gaps in the batting order that need filling more than any are Crawley and Pope, so regardless of where Bethell bats, we’ll need another player...

I agree with those to be binned, I think everyone apart from that should stay, Duckett has undoubtedly been poor this series and caused controversy off the pitch, but he has earned enough rope over the last 3 years, likewise with Brook (albeit he has done better with the bat this series)...

What have we learned from the 4th Test?

Yep, no new call-ups, so it’ll almost certainly be Potts playing in Sydney

What have we learned from the 4th Test?

Rehan is in Australia playing in the Big Bash, so that’s definitely possible, although I imagine they’ll go for Potts

Will McCullum be sacked if England loses Ashes ?

Reckon he’s safe as houses now

*Official* 4th Test (Melbourne) 26-30 December

How much money will Cricket Australia have lost from missing out on 3 days of revenue here?

They should cremate the stumps and bring them to England or something

Not the first time his World Championship hopes have ended due to a failed drugs test, I do hope he gets the support he needs, but it’s very possible his winnings get rescinded and he loses his place on the ProTour, foolish man

@andruid you’ll like this one, the Kenyan president is getting flamed for jumping on the bandwagon of David Munyua after his stunning win over former Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker! https://x.com/WilliamsRuto/status/2001908188740764058

What have we learned from the 2nd test

We have learned that England do have it in them to dig in, probably too little too late to actually save the series now though

*Official* 3rd Test (Adelaide) 17th-21st December

Asa Tribe hit a ton against a strong Aussie A side, but if any batters are to come in, it’ll be Bethell

*Official* 3rd Test (Adelaide) 17th-21st December

Being a keeper-batter is a tough gig, I thought he did really well at it in the India series, although a particularly challenging Test at the Oval behind the stumps seemed to take it out of his batting, and he’s struggled here in unfamiliar conditions and up against a pink ball. Long-term I...

*Official* 2nd Test (Brisbane) 4-8 December

We’re at our best when we have absolute clarity in what we have to do, batting first having to set a target we struggle with (the best we played all Test was when we were right up against it and had no option other to block, with the prospect of an innings defeat on the horizon), if we do win...

*Official* 3rd Test (Adelaide) 17th-21st December

Surrey’s second choice keeper is struggling, so what better choice to replace him with the gloves than Surrey’s third choice keeper? Speaking of which, has Pope ever actually donned the gloves for Surrey?

*Official* 2nd Test (Brisbane) 4-8 December

Well, England finally play to the game situation with that 7th wicket partnership, but it was too little too late and now our best two chances have been blown. Let’s see if the rest of the batting unit take the hint or whether they carry on giving their wicket away cheaply
