Yeah but he was clearly bowling under workload restrictions. Bowled 12 overs out of 85 on day 1 and then 17 out of 100 overs split across days 2 and 3. It's clear that they're not fully confident about his fitness for long form cricket yet. And if a guy isn't fit to bowl 20+ overs a day, I can't...

Pressure should be on Conway given how many runs C00per and Heaphy have been scoring in the Plunket Shield - though of course the bowling attacks in the Shield are as badly depleted as the national sides' so I imagine Gav is taking the banner year that domestic bats are having with a grain of salt.

I swear to God if they pick Macewell ahead of Ajaz when we already have Phillips batting at 7 I will physically scream.

I can't see them picking KJ given that he seems to be bowling with a 15 over a day cap for Canterbury. On form, next cab off the rank would probably be Clarkson, but given the next test is at the mount there's a reasonable case for playing a specialist spinner, so Ajaz.

I genuinely think injury subs should be allowed. I know the concern is that it'll get abused, but it's worked fine for concussion subs, and it's just horrible when a team is affected by an injury to a key player early in a match, especially when it's a bowler.

Phillips is such a massive upgrade on Macewell in tests.

The Fish and the Ship would make quite a bowling combo, too bad we'll probably never see it.

Fisher though has really shown his quality in A cricket with strong showings in India and South Africa in tough conditions for pacers. His FC record is also absolutely sparkling, even if injuries have restricted him to just 16 fc games. Definitely well up the list for me.

All injured apart from Kugz who's become a merc.

Hmm, if Foulkes is ahead of any of those other names, it's not on merit. But with Duffy, yes he probably makes NZ's first choice second XI.

Fine, Doug Bracewell, if you're gonna be a prick about it.

1st KJ Henry Smith O'Rourke 2nd Sears Fisher Kuggeleijn Santner Probably an exaggeration to say its a 3rd/4th XI. But you can make a solid case it's a 3rd XI.

I don't wanna be mean, but the guy they've got doing the cricinfo commentary this series is...not good.

Gotta say, this might be the most debilitated NZ bowling attack ever. Henry, KJ, O'Rourke, Smith, - that's our entire first choice bowling attack. Throw in injuries to Fisher and Santner and the merciful absence of Kugz and this is only really a half-strength A attack. WI with a golden...

Their domestic records would suggest their's very little between them with GP averaging 40 and Bracewell averaging 38. I suspect the difference in their test records reflects that GP has spent a lot more of his test career bowling in conditions that are kind to spinners.

Serves Ben Stokes right for betraying bazball. If he'd committed to the #intent England would have 350 by now and Stokes could declare

    2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

At the same time, Heaphy tonned up on day 1 against a bowling attack featuring 2 (soon to be 3?) Blackcaps and in conditions that lead a strong Canty batting lineup to fall in a heap. Had some luck, but still looks very impressive.

Another score for Jacobs, though I have to say, it's a bit silly having him bat down at number 6. About time he moved up to 4.

He's not young but he's a solid domestic player who's had some success in A cricket. Honestly not sure who else we'd pick at this point.
