*Official* South Africa Tour to India 2025

I'm not saying the selectors couldn't have handled them better, but they were both a bit unlucky in who they were in competing for places with. Harmer was up against Maharaj in tests and Tahir in limited overs, and for Abbott it was Steyn, Morkel, Philander, and Rabada. It wasn't easy to make...

There's also the problem of us playing so few tests. Players need to be given a decent run in order to get a proper idea whether or not they can cut it at this level, but it takes so long to get to that point. If we were playing more tests then we'd be able to weed out the players who aren't up...

*Official* South Africa Tour to India 2025

Muthusamy was never going to get picked ahead of Maharaj or Harmer, so the only way he would have made it into the side is if they decided to go with three spinners and whether rightly or wrongly, they decided not to. It is harsh on him given his performances in the Pakistan series, but his...

I wonder if Rabada's injury had something to do with it. With him out, maybe they felt that strengthening the seam attack was necessary. Maharaj and Harmer are both capable of bowling long spells, so having that extra spinning option may have been deemed less important than an extra seamer.

Only 10 of them. Jansen's highest score is 87. It still makes for a long batting line up though.

There isn't any "might be" about it, considering that they're our two best spinners since readmission.

    South Africa team selection

How many tests have the senior side played in that time? It doesn't feel like a lot more than that.

That was basically what got Bavuma into the test side. I don't know how many from this A side will end up making it into test cricket, but they've certainly advanced their cases with this win.

His List A stats look good. An average of 38.88 with a strike rate of 130.63. But he's only played 22 compared with 126 T20s, and the last one was two years ago. So if he's not being picked domestically for the 50-over game, picking him for an international is a little questionable.

Breetzke now has 500 runs in ODIs, which I think makes him the joint fastest with Janneman Malan. Hopefully his international career doesn't go in the same direction.

And he's only 26, so there's still plenty of time for him.

He'd had a really good first-class season, so they probably had high hopes for him given the lack of black batsmen, but then they pick him in a format he'd never played. And even though he didn't get to bat in either of the matches he played, he doesn't get considered again. It's sometimes hard...

    South African Domestic Season 2025/26

Koen was Paarl Gim. Peter van der Merwe went there, but he finished his schooling at St Andrews. I couldn't find any others, unless you count Riley Norton.

    South Africa team selection

Could both be true, i.e. he has an injury but wasn't considered for selection anyway? But even if that was the case, it's still strange that we're getting two different stories.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not used to South Africa turning up for a knock-out match.

What everyone is forgetting about the Klusener comparisons is that Klusener was also immense with the ball. De Klerk's been decent, but nowhere near Kluserner-like.

I think number of wins is the first tie breaker, in which case New Zealand couldn't overtake India

I am literally the same age as him (we were born on the same day!). I'm not in bad shape, but I couldn't see myself doing that.
