Wavell Hinds converts to Kolpak

Wavell Hinds, the former West Indies batsman, has signed a Kolpak deal with Derbyshire, which puts his international career in doubt. Hinds has not represented West Indies since the Champions Trophy last October, and would not be allowed to play for the team again as long as he is listed as a Kolpak player.

With his aggressive left-handed batting and useful medium pace, Hinds is a welcome addition to the Derbyshire team. “Wavell has plenty of experience in both the Test and one-day international arena and he has proven ability in scoring runs at the highest level,” said head of cricket John Morris, “That is exactly what I was looking for in a Kolpak player.”

Hinds has played 45 Tests and 114 one-day internationals, with averages of 33.01 and 28.92 with the bat in the respective formats. He is currently serving a ban from cricket in the West Indies, following alleged abuse of umpires during a club match in Jamaica. The ban lasts until the end of the year.
