The “Pigeon” is back
James Nixon |Glenn McGrath has taken his first step to getting back into the Australian side in bowling to Michael Clarke in Brisbane nets yesterday.
As reported yesterday, McGrath has been out of all cricket for six months and missed Australia’s tours of South Africa and Bangladesh due to his wife Jane battling cancer.
Jane McGrath’s health is now improving and she has given Glenn her full backing to making a cricketing comeback for Australia.
McGrath is keen to make his comeback during the Champions Trophy in India in October while Allan Border, a member of the national selector panel said his feeling was that McGrath should prepare for the Ashes by bowling day in-day out for New South Wales in the Pura Cup.
McGrath has however said that he will stand by the decision made by Allan Border and the national selectors and will play a few Pura Cup games for NSW if they consider that to be the best path for him to take.
McGrath is currently in a three-day training camp in Brisbane under the watchful eyes of Australian head coach John Buchanan and bowling coach Troy Cooley.
