Styris to join team in Melbourne

New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris will join the Black Caps for the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank tri-series after fully recovering from back and calf injuries.

Styris replaces Hamish Marshall who will be returning home to New Zealand on Wednesday.

Styris had declared himself fit and raring to go after proving his match fitness in Auckland’s domestic leagues over the past month.

New Zealand manager Lindsay Crocker confirmed Styris was likely to play in Melbourne on Sunday, meaning the side would be full strength and injury free.

“Scott needs to be reacquainted with the squad systems, which have moved on significantly since he was last in the team,” he said.

“It is also an opportunity for him to get back on to the international stage and the extra pressures that it brings.”
