Sri Lanka board release Atapattu

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board have released Marvan Atapattu from his national contract clearing the way for him to play in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 series.

The secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Kangadaran Mathivanan told AFP that “We decided at this evening’s committee meeting to release Marvan Atapattu from his contract from October 1.”

This almost certainly ends his international career which has spanned 17 years and seen him play 88 Tests and 268 one-day internationals. Atapattu was overlooked for the World Cup in the West Indies and took no part in the one-day series against Pakistan that followed in Abu Dhabi.
