Somerset snare Jayasuria

Sanath Jayasuria will, on Thursday, sign a short-term contract to play for county side Somerset. The 35 year old is expected to play after Sri Lanka’s postponed tour of New Zealand which is scheduled to finish mid-April.

Jayasuria will step in for South Africa’s Graeme Smith, who is carrying out international duties until the end of May. The short stint will be Jayasuria’s first in county cricket and he will be joined by many of his Sri Lankan teammates in England. Upul Chandana (Gloucestshire), Chaminda Vaas (Worcestshire) and Muttiah Muralitharan (Lancashire) all have contracts while Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are actively on the look out for positions.
