Ponting/Symonds out of 2nd ODI

Injuries continue to plague Australia, as captain Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds will not be fit in time for the second One Day International against South Africa.

Ponting pulled a stomach muscle before the first match and Andrew Symonds is suffering from a hip-flexor ailment. Neither participated in Australia’s 6-wicket defeat in the first ODI.

It is suspected that Ponting may not be able to participate in the series at all, although he has to participated in batting and fielding drills recently. Symonds’ condition is said to be improving as well, but reports are that he will not be rushed back into action.

South Africa leads the series 1-0 with four games to play. The second match takes place at Cape Town on Friday.
