No tolerance for racism

Cricket Australia have said they will introduce a zero-tolerance policy towards racism in the stands .

However, they stopped short of saying fans would be evicted from the ground for using racial epithets. Despite this, they have said that offenders could possibly face lifetime bans from cricket grounds for such infractions.

Australian cricket grounds were under the spotlight last summer after several South African players complained of racial abuse from sections of the crowd.

During the upcoming Ashes series though, the usage of the word “pom” will still be permitted. Cricket Australia contacted the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission to confirm that the word “pom” was not a racially charged insult.
