More Green than Gold

Years of a largely canary yellow Australian kit have come to an end as a green kit was launched today at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

An identical shade of green to the ‘baggy green’ cap worn by the players, the kit also features a sun protection neck line with a “mesh zip neck” in place of a collar and is a light material to keep heat to a minimum.

The kit will be worn for the first time in the opening match of the triangular series, whose sponsor is yet to be announced, against England on January 12.

James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia CEO said he was delighted with the new playing strip and has called on Australian fans to ‘Go Off in Green and Gold’ over the summer.

Sutherland went to say: “We’re absolutely thrilled with how this new strip has come up.”

“I think this summer in particular we face formidable opposition from the ‘Barmy Army’ and one of the things that we’re really keen to do is ensure that Australian cricket fans can feel a part of the crowd, can involve themselves in the action, make a bigger noise than perhaps Australian cricket fans have previously and wear the right colours – wear our colours of green and gold.”
