Martyn returns for Twenty20

Damien Martyn has been selected for the Twenty20 international against South Africa early next week while Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Adam Gilchrist are rested.

The chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said McGrath, Lee and Gilchrist needed to “freshen up” after “working particularly hard during the Melbourne and Sydney Tests”.

Hohns and his fellow selectors have kept with the same bowling attack that Australia won the Chappell-Hadlee series with last month. After conceeding 332 runs in the third ODI against New Zealand, they will be looking for an improved performance with the ball.

Following Michael Hussey’s outstanding performances in ODIs over the past 12 months he has been rewarded with being named as vice-captain for the game.

The match to be played at The Gabba in Brisbane on 9th January is the first Twenty20 international to be played in Australia.

Australia
Simon Katich, Michael Hussey, Ricky Ponting (captain), Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds, Michael Clarke, James Hopes, Brad Haddin, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Mick Lewis, Mitchell Johnson.
