Lewis out for two months

England bowler and Gloucestershire captain, Jon Lewis, will be sidelined for two months after damaging his left ankle, again.

Lewis will undergo surgery on Thursday in an attempt to repair the problematic ankle and try prevent any long term damage. The ankle has been an ongoing problem for Lewis, one which forced him to return home during the Commonwealth Bank series in Australia.

“This seems like the best solution for Jon’s ankle, and hopefully will resolve the issues that have been causing him problems over the winter months,” said Gloucestershire physio Steve Griffin.

“The rehabilitation process following the surgery is very important and we will not be rushing Jon back until he is completely ready.”

“It’s extremely frustrating but two months is a worst case scenario,” Lewis told the BBC.

“My ankle wasn’t too bad when I was at the World Cup with England, but then my workload wasn’t that great. Now I’m back playing county cricket, the workload is that much better and it won’t stand up.

“It’s a far from ideal situation for Gloucestershire, who are losing their captain and one of their best bowlers.”
