Law offers to lend a hand

Stuart Law, always regarded as one of the best batsman never to play Test Cricket for Australia (although technically, he did play one game), would be willing to offer advice to England on batting on Australian pitches during the upcoming Ashes series.

The 37 year old has lived in England for ten years, and qualified as an English citizen in 2005. Upon gaining citizenship, he had jokingly commented that he would be ready to play for England should they require his services, although being 36 at the time, that was never likely to happen.

It seems, however, that Law is becoming more English by the day, as he would have no qualms about helping England to plot Australia’s potential downfall this summer.

Asked about the possibility by BBC Sport, Law said, “I might have mentioned it jokingly to Andrew Flintoff, but I said it with an amount of truth.”

I have no axe to grind, I would be there purely to help out the England players who don’t have that much experience playing cricket in Australia and I can just see the adverse effect it would have in the Australian camp. The captain and the coach would not take to it too well.”

However, any such plans could potentially be scuppered by Law’s final comment “I would definitely enjoy it – although I don’t think I would get on too well with Fletch, he and I are totally different characters.”
