Last chance for Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has been included in the upcoming Challenger series, a selection trial for the international season and ultimately the World Cup in March.

In what was described by one selector as his ‘last chance’, Ganguly will have to put in a number of impressive performances to get himself back in contention, having not played at the top level since September 2005 and missing out on selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Despite a public dispute with coach Greg Chappell, the selectors have stressed that the door has not closed altogether and that Ganguly can easily get himself back in to what is currently a struggling Indian ODI side that failed to reach the final of the recent DLF Cup triangular tournament in Malaysia.

Ganguly has said that his hunger for success has not diminished during his time on the outer and that he is relishing the opportunity ahead.

The Challenger series begins on October 1.
