Lara/Sarwan/Gayle return for WI

A full-strength West Indies team will head to Australia, as a 15-man squad was named containing the big names of Caribbean cricket. Brian Lara, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan are among nine players who return to the team, having missed the tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul will continue on as captain, and he will lead a team boasting five specialist seamers, Dwayne Bravo, and no spinner. Firebrands Tino Best, Jermaine Lawson and Fidel Edwards have been included, along with the steadier seam of Daren Powell and Corey Collymore.

Notably absent is Pedro Collins, who devastated the Australians in his One Day International appearances ‘down under’ earlier this year. His exclusion is most likely due to lack of fitness, as he is currently out of action with injury.

Denesh Ramdin will do the glovework, whilst Wavell Hinds and Devon Smith return to strengthen the prospective top order. Dwayne Smith is the 15th man in the squad, selected despite his struggles at International level lately.
