Johnson to use Lillee

Mitchell Johnson is heading to Chennai for a week to train under the eyes of Dennis Lillee and Australian Centre of Excellence’s Troy Cooley to attempt to improve his bowling to a level where it will help him secure a first XI spot.

Johnson who didn’t play a single match at the World Cup told AAP on his departure to India that “I did a lot of bowling at the World Cup in the nets and I am keen to develop the knowledge that I got there a bit further at Chennai. It’s obviously great to be working with Lillee again and to have Troy Cooley there as well, I’m rapt.”

Johnson has headed to Chennia on three previous occasions to be under the watchful eye of Lillee who described Johnson as a “once in a generation” bowler when he first come on the scene.

Australia’s next international event is the Twenty20 World Cup in September followed by a one-day international tour of India in October.
