India want Hair out

The BCCI has asked the ICC to not allow Darrell Hair to stand in the upcoming Champion’s Trophy. They join Pakistan in this stance, following last month’s forfeited Oval Test, a controversy which Hair was at the centre of.

A letter was sent from the BCCI to the ICC, and board secretary Niranjan Shah justified the baord’s position: “There was a lot of controversy and there are certain issues like crowd behaviour etc, We wanted to avoid unnecessary incidents.”

The naming of the officials who were to stand was scheduled for last week, but the controversy surrounding Hair has led to this being delayed. It now looks unlikely that he will stand, as host nation India are against it. It is also possible that other countries may choose to back India and Pakistan, making it impossible for the ICC to pick Hair.
