India gain consolation victory

Murali Kartik’s career best 6-27 helped India to a two wicket victory over Australia in the final ODI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kartik helped to bowl Australia out for 193 in the 42nd over in dismissing Brad Hodge, Andrew Symonds, Brad Haddin, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee and James Hopes and cause Australia to lose their final seven wickets for 76 runs.

India were in serious trouble throughout their innings in slumping to 64-6 at one stage thanks to some great bowling from Nathan Bracken and Mitchell Johnson, but Kartik also brought his batting to the fore where he put on a 52-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Zaheer Khan to see India to a two wicket victory.

Australia 193
Ricky Ponting 57, Mitchell Johnson 24*
Murali Kartik 6-27, RP Singh 2-59

India 195-8
Robin Uthappa 47, Zaheer Khan 31*

India won by 2 wickets
