ICL players could face life bans

The BCCI have maintained that any Indian cricketers that play for the Indian Cricket League face lifetime bans from representing India internationally.

The Twenty20 competition is in the process of luring big name players from a range of countries with the recently retired Brian Lara already having signed up. However the BCCI has taken an extremely hard line regarding any Indian players who are thinking of playing for the ICL.

“Players who take part in the ICL will never be eligible to play for the country again. It is up to the players to decide what they want to do,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shan told the Indian media over the weekend.

BCCI president, Sharad Pawar, recently mocked the renegade league saying “Not many people are interested in watching retired players in action.” However organiser, Kapil Dev, hit back at the remarks saying the board was scared of the ICL and its potential impact.
