It was a fluke because the Windies simply had an off day in the final.

There is no doubt that the Windies were a far superior team as they amply demonstrated when they toured India later in 1983 and hammered India 5-0.
Too bad they don't hand out the World Cup for winning random series, eh? Perhaps the Bongs should proclaim an eventual NZ WC win this time a fluke on the basis of their whitewashes.

No one claims that India were the best team in 83. They were however the best team in the tournament as demonstrated by their 2-1 record against the next best team in the tournament. If India fluked the 83 win, then it follows that Australia fluked 87 and 99, Pakistan fluked 92 etc. The best team not winning the World Cup does not make the victory of the actual winners a fluke. Calling it a fluke is as lazy as labelling every South African defeat a choke. You win the World Cup by performing at the World Cup, not JAMODIs or REVENGE ODI Series.

Were they really ? The Windies lost 2 games in the tournament which was the same as India (who lost to Australia & the Windies). The Windies didn't lose against Australia in the tournament. If India were the clear cut best team in the tournament they would have had a better win loss ratio than anyone else - you could argue it that way also.

India were simply better in the final. I think prior to the final, everything probably suggested that the Windies had been the better team up to that point as they had lost one game to India's two.

Yeah but that argument wouldn't make sense. If we are debating which nonsensical argument is the best when talking about world cups, that argument will win hands down, sure.

Wow that's atrocious logic. Especially considering India did have the best win-loss ratio in the tournament anyway (tied with wi) just like you mentioned.

And if West Indies were the real deserving winners of the cup, they wouldn't have lost to the actual winners. Twice
