So if Ireland were to win this game against Pakistan they finish third? Would a close win not see the NR only just barely go up and leave them in fourth?
Nah, Ireland are already on 6 points, win today to get to 8 & cement 3rd spot. Their NRR will be irrelevant

If Ireland wins they have 8 points, WI only 6, I think WI is guaranteed 4th, and Pak/Ire are fighting for 3rd, loser goes out.

Barring a tie or no result in the last group game, NZ vs WI it will be.
Holy crap if Pak/Ire tie then WI is out, that'd be incredibly funny.

Yeah hence I was saying if we win the quarter, I think "we'll get to the final" ...not win it.
Hey if it rains for 2 days in a row then we will be shared champions...if we play AUS and it rains would we be the champion or shared?

Correct, unless we get the unlikely event of a tie in which case both Ireland & Pakistan move to 7 points & ahead of the Windies.

Heh? If either Ire or Pak win they both end up with 4 wins i.e. 8 points. Hence they are outright 3rd.

This is Australia's tournament to lose.

They have the best fast bowling combination and the best batting depth in the competition - key ingredients for winning an do tourney on Australian pitches.
If they don't win, they should be ashamed really. Everything is in their favor to win it.

Oh most certainly yes.
a) They are at home for all their knockout games
b) they have a fast bowling pool unmatched by an other team
c) they have the best batting depth
d) All of their rivals have major weaknesses/issues (SA rely on two batsmen and have no reliable fifth bowler, India have no batting depth and their bowling is still somewhat suspect,
SL's bowling is poor - the Kiwis are probably the biggest threat but they have not played across the ditch yet and to win the world cup you need to win at the MCG. Even in their home conditions, the Kiwis could only huff and puff past Oz.

It's all setup for an Australian win.

I agree with most of your points except the bolded one:

Boult and Southee new ball
Milne - (perhaps) the world's fastest bowler
Corey Anderson - ridiculously good s/r - by far the best 5th bowler in the tournament

Kyle Mills - 240 wickets at a great ave and e/r
Mitchell McClenaghan - 2nd fastest to 50 odi wickets

Matt Henry - 8 odis, 21 wickets, av 15, s/r 18 can't even get in the squad

Disappointing Australia has chosen to play its quarter final and and semi in Adelaide and Sydney. As much as they're awesome grounds, they should have put them in Perth and Brisbane to humiliate Pakistan and India respectively. Playing these sides on slower wickets only makes a game of it. Dire.

Suppose if Australia has an injury they could always call up Ryan Harris...

Brisbane probably suffered from not offering as good package as local authorities of Adelaide did for theirs while Perth has tiny little capacity when compared to current knock out venues.
