ABdV's school records are certainly gun achievements on paper, but let's not pretend that he's an elite level athlete in literally everything -- he's never represented South Africa in hockey, certainly hasn't played Super 15 Rugby, played world tennis events or teed off in a PGA tournament. Sure, he may very well be able to do all those things if he wanted to, given the obvious skills he has, but he'd almost certainly be specialising at those instead of cricket..

To be completely honest, we have also seen that Usain Bolt was a very promising fast bowler in Windies at age group level.. And Jonty did make the RSA Olympic Hockey team.. But I would assume the cool thing about AB's achievements are that he is doing that in a country like South Africa where there is so much participation in all levels of sport (and presumably higher level of competition) and as Pratyush mentioned, if you are making the under 18 or 19 levels, it is a little bit more than just a naturally talented athlete dominating hacks in middle and high school... So while GF and Marc can continue to pretend it is nothing, I still think it is a big deal and is rarer than they make it seem...


Out of curiosity, what has Freddie's achievements been at under 18 or 19 level sports other than cricket?
