Hey, at least finch is saving his next ton for the knockout stages. Gotta tolerate the low score in between his tons.
Nah, no genuine minnows in the knockouts. Finch to pass 50 (but not 100) a maximum of once between now and the end of the tournament IMO.

To be fair on finchy only 3 of his tons were against england. The rest came from better teams like South Africa and Scotland.

Usually kicks on once set, doesn't he? Don't remember him getting out between 50 and 100 all that often.

Ross Taylor, with an extra bonus for throwing away our DRS appeal
To be fair to Taylor, Hesson apparently said on a radio interview that Taylor had a flare-up of an old forearm injury, which basically completely removed his ability to drive the ball - and that was the main factor why he struggled more and more to pick up runs as the innings progressed.

1 from 22 and 6 from 42 is doesnt not cut it unless you are saving your team in a 5 day game
Yes but off the next 52 balls he scored 39. Granted some came at the end when he was the only batsman left and had no choice but to go for runs. But his plan was to slowly accelerate and bat the 50 overs to set a target. The fact that he started really really slowly shouldn't matter as much as some people here are making it out to be because it's the first innings... Not a run chase where you constantly need to keep the Required RR in check. If Mathews and the lower order had stayed with Sanga and batted the full quota of overs, SL would've got to 210-220 imo. Not a great total but it's runs on the board against a side prone to collapses while chasing.
