Australia 176 (46.4 ov); Pakistan 178/6 (41 ov)
Pakistan won by 4 wickets (with 54 balls remaining)

Pls state your opinion, without necessarily using numbers above

If one looks at the games in isolation it's Pakistan hands down, but obviously there was far more riding on the QF than a group game when both teams had already qualified.

Pretty pointless poll to be honest, if we are being technical then we beat them more convincingly as we won by 5 wickets they won by 4 wickets.

But in reality our win was far more significant as it was in the knock out stages, Australia have not been beaten before the final since the 1992 World Cup!

In 1999 Pakistan also beat Australia in the group stages, but went on to lose to them in the final!

The match between Pakistan and Australia was not that pointless.
Had Australia won, they would've positioned themselves against the WIndies in the Qtr-finals and assuredly would've made the semi-finals.

Also, this is in response to S.Manjrekar from Cricinfo who states already that India is superior to Pakistan - so just wanted to do some benchmarking

A pointless poll.

Who woulda thunk it.

poor guy.........at least don't blast him for the poll....stay away from it if you guys don't like it

disagree with BoyBrumby there. I thought India's win was more convincing. Pakistan seemed to have lost the plot when they were 93/4. The only thing was that Pakistan's bowling performance was exceptionally strong. I guess India's bowling never looked quite as threatening. However in the batting department India looked extremely strong. They never looked out of the game.

really? Manjrekar is saying that? He is usually somewhat conservative about India's chances

Neither win was very convincing. Australia fought to the very end.

There were moments in both games where it looks like Pakistan and India were going to collapse in the chase.

India won by 5 wickets after donating 3 of them. There is no trophy for beating Australia more convincingly though, and it has no bearing on the future.

One would argue that Pakistan won with 54 deliveries in hand, whilst India only had 14

They were gifted a few too.

But really, as you say, what does it matter, with regards to the semi final?

I would say both wins were the same level of convincing, tbh, for exactly the reasons you have mentioned in your post. :)
