Virat Kholi

If india are going to play him he has to bat in the top 4, last 2 matches against the 2 big teams England and south africa he has come in at number 7 which is a waste because he cant play the lofted shots he is more a orthodox batsman. I would prefer ifran Pathan playing in odi in countries like sri lanka, india, pakistan, bangladesh where the wickets are flat, pathan can score useful runs and be handy with the ball.

A more valid argument is that he should be match-fit and finish a season of domestic cricket first. He's not that bad that this current bunch is picked ahead of him.

India's batting is essentially Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir and Kohli. This should be the top four for all the games. You don't need seven batsmen with a batting top four so strong.

Would prefer if the great Kohli's name isn't mentioned in the same post as Irfan Pathan.

Going by Irfan Pathan's domestic form, he is far from where he once was.

Agree Kohli should bat in top four, but often a huge platform is laid by top 3 and then India decide to press on so Kohli is shunted down the order...

Nothing can be done about this. The Indian batting lineup is flexible, just need to sort out the bowling composition. Personally 2 seamers and 2 spinners should be used for rest of games-Zak/Munaf/Ashwin/Bhaji.

Irfan has done well in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 domestic seasons, but he's missed a lot of games due to recurring injuries. His replacements are not so far better- he may not be as great as Kohli, but he's no idiot like Munaf or Nehra or Dinda or Tyagi or...duh! I know this is off-topic, but the typical Irfan-bashing merits one such note.

Kohli can still come in at four with a few overs left. He can turn the strike over initially, and when he's confident, start striking. It has often worked for him. Should be simple for the captain.

If theres anything more than 10 overs left in the game I think sending Kohli in should be the best option, unless its a chase which needs >8rpo or something similiar
