I some how don't like the format of either 2007 or 2011 CWCs. Feel 2011 is better than 2007 but still prefer the format above. Its Short - more nations & less number of mis matches. Pls post ur opinions & votes... Thanks.

Far more sensible structure! Each game is important, which means that each game is interesting.

While 2011 format is bad, 2015 is doomed to failure before a ball is bowled. 10 teams in 1 pool. Endless games which will be irrelevant. Everyone will be asleep long before the finals come around... :@

What I gauge from posters' views here on CW is that they would like to see the following format.

10 teams in the WC (Top 8 + Bangladesh and Ireland)

2 groups of 5 teams each. The top 2 from each advance to the Semi Finals, and then the Final. Makes every match meaningful.

Short and sweet.

EDIT: With 5 teams in each group, we are looking at a total of 10 games in each group. Now if we have one day game and one day/night match, we can fit in 2 games a day. Hence, that would mean 10 days worth of matches. Then one day break, and then both Semi Final matches held the next day. Then another days break, and the Final. That means a total of 14 days, or 2 weeks. Fantastic.

to address lop sided games they should make all round robin games 40 overs.

from QF to F all games are played 50 overs.

kinda like the rugby 7's with the furher you get the games extend. in length

what could be another element is the oves are split. at the 20th over. the leading team of the 1st split wins a bonus point. it also hepls a minow or not of high team to skew the awfulness of the game. case in point.

NZ vs Ken.
Ken
59/6 (20 overs) RR 2.95
NZ
180/? (20 overs.) RR 9.00 (based on the rr they maintened)

NZ win first innings point and ken you has to score another 122 runs just to get NZ bat again.

SL vs Can
SL
92/2 (20 overs) RR 4.6
Can
47/4 (20 over) RR 2.35

**maybe the team that wins the BP of the 1st split can decide if they want to force the other team to follow on. or swap as per usual its more than a BP its motivation to dictate the match.

All of you ****s should be in the ICC, way too much thought being given here to ideal formats. No format is going to please everybody.

Best comment I heard was about the group with 5 test sides being called 'the group of death', but the cause of death being old age. Of course the whole thing's way too long and of course there are way too many complete mismatches. The ICC tournament is so superior nowadays that it's just not funny.

Yes, there will probably be an upset somewhere and everyone will claim that justifies having 7 non-test teams in the competition, just like Ireland beating Pakistan last time apparently made up for all the non-events before and after it.

How about we make a rule that any team that loses a game by 100+ runs or 8+ wickets is not allowed to compete in the next world cup. How many tournaments would it take before there are no teams left??

Who cares if there are mismatches? There are mismatches in EVERY world cup, be it cricket, soccer, rugby union, rugby league, ... whatever!

The World Cup is so much more than who lifts up the trophy at the end. It should be a celebration of a sport which is played all around the world. Having less than 10% of the cricket world's nations competing is a travesty!

But it's not just 1 or 2 mismatches, it's that of the 42 group games, as a conservative estimate half of them will be one-sided, making it a complete waste of time.

So far it's been 4 games, 4 very predictable results, and all of them thrashings.

Care to name a single soccer WC where there's been as many mismatches as we routinely see every time in the cricket WC?

Okay, that takes us down to 8 teams. Why don't we just have the Champions Trophy every 2 years? Oh yeah, nobody likes that tournament...

Just because a soccer score of 2-0 doesn't look as bad as a cricket score of 250-100, doesn't mean it is not a mismatch...

another aspect re: soccer is that if a minow team gets a goal the other more superior team only needs to score to draw the match which is a legitimate option in soccer, which occured to NZ in ther soccer pool.

...hmmm I think it does, actually. You're going to need to explain a bit more clearly exactly how a 2-0 result in football = a 150 margin in cricket if I'm going to be convinced by that particular line of argument.

Anyway, fwiw, I'm not saying there shouldn't be any of the associates. Simply that having them make up almost half of the competing nations is way too many. A tournament involving 12 nations would probably be just about right imo.

there's only 4 associates in the wc.

If 2015 CWC is 10 team format, there should be qualifiers some wat like this:

2013 Qualifiers in Scotland should be made WCL - Div 1 only to grant ODI status. Lets say the new ODI nations are:

1) Ireland
2) Afghanistan
3) The Netherlands
4) Scotland
5) Namibia
6) Kenya

These new ODI nations should then play qualifiers in place of Div 1:

Example:
ICC 2015 CRICKET WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS, IRELAND 2014

Participating Nations:
1) Bangladesh/West Indies (Rank 9)

2) Zimbabwe (Rank 10)

3) Ireland
4) Afghanistan
5) The Netherlands
6) Scotland
7) Namibia
8) Kenya

Fixtures:
Day 1:
Match 01: Bangladesh v Kenya
Match 02: Zimbabwe v Namibia

Day 2:
Match 03: Ireland v Scotland
Match 04: Afghanistan v The Netherlands

Day 3:
Match 05: Bangladesh v Namibia
Match 06: Zimbabwe v Kenya

Day 4:
Match 07: Ireland v Netherlands
Match 08: Afghanistan v Scotland

Day 5:
Match 09: Bangladesh v Zimbabwe
Match 10: Kenya v Namibia

Day 6:
Match 11: Ireland v Afghanistan
Match 12: Scotland v The Netherlands

Day 7:
Rest Day

Day 8:
Match 13: Bangladesh v Ireland
Match 14: Zimbabwe v Afghanistan

Day 9:
Match 15: Kenya v The Netherlands
Match 16: Namibia v Scotland

Day 10:
Match 17: Bangladesh v Afghanistan
Match 18: Zimbabwe v Ireland

Day 11:
Match 19: Kenya v Scotland
Match 20: The Netherlands v Namibia

Day 12:
Match 21: Bangladesh v The Netherlands
Match 22: Zimbabwe v Scotland

Day 13:
Match 23: Ireland v Kenya
Match 24: Afghanistan v Namibia

Day 14:
Rest Day

Day 15:
Match 25: Bangladesh v Scotland
Match 26: Zimbabwe v The Netherlands

Day 16:
Match 27: Ireland v Namibia
Match 28: Afghanistan v Kenya

Day 17:
Reserve Day

Ur opinions?

A format like the 92WC would be ideal for me.

- 2 pools of 7, quarters, semis, final = 49 games (most of them formalities)
- 1 pool of 10, no quarters, semis, finals = 48 games (hardly any formalities)

Still, too long but better than the current format.

Oh, and they'll have to wear 92WC throwback style uniforms.

This is my biggest complaint. Why don't all teams wear kits with the common theme but in different colours? Looked so good in '92 and '96.

FIFA style

Europe
Eng, Scot, Ire, Hol. 3 spots.

Asia
Ind, Pak, SL, Afg, Ban. 4 spots.

Americas
USA, Can, WI. 1 spot.

SA/Pacific
Aust, NZ, SA, Zim, Ken 4 spots.

12 teams in total.

Host nation does not need to qualify. ( no more combined hosting.)

a home and away comp must be completed by teams within in the 4 year period between cups.

In soccer, a weaker team can play very defensively for the majority of the game, hoping to score off the occasional break downfield. In ODI cricket, if a weaker team tries to bat defensively, they won't score runs, so will definitely lose the game.

Cricket with its high scoring magnifies the difference between the two teams, whereas soccer with its low scoring makes scores look more respectable.
