Yea I know, just mentioning how misinformed some people are.
It aways staggers me when commentators and ex-players say things that show they don't know the laws of the game. If you're being paid to play or comment on a sport, shouldn't you have a thorough understanding of the rules and concepts? That seems like a basic job requirement to me. (I know the hat-trick concept isn't part of cricket's laws, but it's still a part of the game and should be understood by professional cricket commentators).

It's like an airline pilot who doesn't know what some of the buttons do, and just hopes he'll never have to use them, or worse, thinks he knows what they do but has it completely wrong.
