Ten Doeschate is by far the most controversial choice in this Team of the World Cup given that he only played 3 games and the Netherlands only managed a single victory and that was against the disappointing Scots. However, in the context of Associate member performance he was outstanding with the bat (if disappointing with the ball). Ten Doeschate scored 2 fifties in three innings and showed the World what a talented player he was. In doing so, ten Doeschate took the mantle of the finest player from a non-Test playing nation from Steve Tikolo. Surrounded by little support, ten Doeschate made a statement to the world about his ability and hammered home the fact that not all the best players come from the 'Big 8' countries.
Gunnest article ever.

I said it was controversial but I do maintain he should be there despite only playing 3 games.

He averaged over 60 with the bat, scored more of his runs through boundaries than virtually anyone else and scored over 50 in 66% of his innings. He was also completely dominant over anyone else in his team.

He is also a name that stands out from the 2007 WC and someone that made a large contribution to the Tournament far over and above proportional to the games he played or the victories his team had.

I can understand why others would disagree though, but IMO there was no other exceptional candidate that demanded to take the place over him

Great article - disgrace that RTD is in at 7 ahead of Shane Watson . RTD was very good, and being made 12th man would have been fair recognition of his efforts, but Watto was clearly a better performer for mine, especially in the number 7 role.

Would point out that Watson scored 145 runs in 8 matches and RtD scored 128 in 3.

RtD impacted games more with the bat and was certainly more valuable to his side than Watson was to Australia

Aus already has half the players in the side (inc 12th man), no need to get greedy and want Watson in there as well

Would point out that Watson barely got the chance to bat, and when he did, got little or no time at the crease.

Michael Clarke? With a greater average and strike rate and a superior fielder?

Can't remember Clarke doing anything better in the field than RTD's c&b of Ponting, tla.

Therefore you can argue that he wasn't really able to have an effect on matches with the bat, and he wasn't all that wonderful with the ball. RTD did have an effect on the tournament/matches with his batting, therefore should be ahead of Watson.
