I am happy my team didn't reach the finals.

No Disrespect to SriLanka but I am just happy that we didn't do too well in this WC. For last 3 final in a row Australia have just humiliated the opposition. Last world cup I helplessly sat through the massacre Ricky Ponting and his team inflicted on India and this time it is not different and I am glad that it is some other team.

Man this is an all time best team, I have never seen such dominance.

I rather have my team humiliated by Australia than Bangladesh.

Exactly. It doesn't matter if you get pwned in the final, the point is that you got there.

It does get annoying when teams bulldozer through 2 consecutive World Cups, especially when the team is a fair amount changed (Gilchrist, Ponting, McGrath, Hayden and Hogg, plus Symonds, remain from 2003).

Comparing these last 2 to 1999, though, is very much flawed.

Well said indeed.

And further, I would rather have my team try and compete with the very best (even if it means a loss) than keep gloating over hollow victories easily earned over poorer sides.

Well that's just silly then Sanz.

If I was a Sri Lankan cricket fan, I would be disappointed for obvious reasons but proud of the way my cricket team played, both throughout the tournament and even on Saturday.

It's ironic, really, how similar 2007 has ended-up being to 2003, with Lanka playing the role India did last time.

well really I thought Sri lanka put up a much better show than 2003 India did. There was a time at about 100 for 1 by SL where I was starting to get a bit worried.

In the last WC final, I wasnt worried from the minute the first ball left Zaheer Khan's (?) hand

Richard 29-04-2007 01:24 PM

Wasn't referring to the final, TBH, meant the tournament at large.

I dont really see the irony TBH:)

The irony relates to Sanz's comment in the OP of this thread.

That's only because it was a 38 overs game, had it been a 50 over game, Australia would have piled up more runs than the last final.

I dont think SriLanka put up any better fight at all, due to the shortened match they had some chance. In any case I was sure of Aussie win before a Single ball was bowled in the game by either side. And If there was any doubt, Gilly cleared it first 15 overs.

That's the key word SJS. I would have been proud too if my team had tried to compete with Australia. They simply surrendered to the might of Australia without even trying to compete. And I am the last person to gloat over our hollow wins.
