West Indies pitch and conditions

Laurrz

International Debutant
The nature of the pitches in the West Indies is akin to those in the sub-continent, especially India, with their dry and brittle surfaces. ...

In the present ICC Cricket World Cup, an important factor to be considered is that most of the match venues have re-laid, and therefore, totally new pitches. The process of renovation work on the stadiums has included the redoing of the entire grounds and the wickets. It is anyone’s guess how these new wickets will play and whether they will be helpful to spin bowling. Antigua has an entirely new stadium and the one at Saint Lucia has been given a superb facelift so that it is almost unrecognizable as the smallest venue. The capacity has been doubled to 25,000 and it is the only floodlit venue in the West Indies.

The only thing that can be said with a degree of certainty is that the proximity of the sea and the ebb and flow of the tide helps swing bowling. Otherwise, one cannot expect too much wear and tear in a matter of just one day to make the surfaces spin friendly.

Another telling fact: Since day-night matches are limited only to Saint Lucia, the dew or the dampness-after-dusk factor will rarely come into play. The effect of this is to make gripping the ball difficult, especially for spinners. For day matches, as most will be in this tournament, this can be excluded as a factor.

so its anyones guess [bout teh pitches] which is good.. i would not like it if it was like subcontinent wickets.. well slow and low anyway

the swing thing is interesting too and good for our bowlers in Bracken and Tait ..and mayb even Symo if his arm gets better..and better for bowling

I think these re-laid tracks might really effect the quality of cricket in the world cup, as we all know a re-laid pitch takes time to settle down so atleast in the first half of the tournament the bowlers might dominate.
