I wouldn't worry too much about how many runs he scores. The experience he brings to the side is immense, considering Symonds and Lee are out. Congratulations to Gilly aswell, by all accounts he is a terrific family man.

Gilchrist probably doesn't have to make heaps of big scores to have a positive impact. He's capable of making the first 10 overs productive, occasionally winning a game on his own, and he's experienced and a good keeper. Definitely valuable, though it probably wouldn't have mattered if he missed the opening two games.

Probably means Watson will be back at 7, though.

Did his missus have an elective C-section or was the bab early? Congrats to both, by the way. :)

Will Haddin get a go as a specialist bat now?

I'd like to think that Mrs Gilchrist didn't have an elective C-section but I'm not sure, Gilly doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would rush something like this.

Good to hear he's back for the sake of the Aussie side and their fans, although I must say i've lost respect for him after those badly timed comments after the chappell hadlee series.

Great Stuff, and Congrats to Gilly in his wife. It wouldn't suprise me if he played the 1st match against Scotland, then rested against the Netherlands or vice versa.

If Mrs G hasn't had the young 'un early it seems an odd decision to me. No-one in their right mind would suggest Oz are anything other than nailed-on for the Super-8 stage & (as I understand it) Gilly was due to come back for that anyway. It's true Oz have run into a bit of iffy form at an inopportune moment, but to rush a bloke back ahead of promised (and presumably needed) rest strikes me as a peculiar call.

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old fart, so he should be over there.

Good on you, Gilly.

Baby Archie  wasn't early. He was always due the last week of February. Archie's old man just wanted an extra three weeks off after the birth, in addition to the last two weeks that he's had off.

Yeah it's a bit strange. Gilchrist probably isn't needed early on, so one can only assume he's changed his mind and wants some more preperation ahead of the major games. If he's been called up against his will because Australia lost a few matches, that's really odd.

rushing him? lol ... i dont think he'll be rushed

btw what do u guys think of Gillys fitness.. i dunno but is it a coincedence that he did well at the start of the CB series then did more worse as it went on? was it because of the long summer... tests included..

so will he be effected (sp) by two games extra lol... or is one dayers a lot easier workload than tests ..

Yeah, it would be great for the aussies to have gilly from the first game of the world cup as he gives great boost to the aussie side. Once again congrats to Gilly and Mel.
